Tulsi
Tulsi has a presence that feels both sacred and familiar — a fragrant, uplifting herb that seems to carry a quiet sense of protection wherever it grows. Its aroma is warm, slightly spicy, and gently sweet, with an energy that feels both grounding and expansive. Often called “Holy Basil,” tulsi has a way of creating a moment of stillness, inviting you to pause and reconnect with what matters.
Its history is deeply rooted in India, where it has been revered for thousands of years. In Hindu tradition, tulsi is considered a sacred plant, often grown near homes and temples as a symbol of purity, devotion, and well-being. It appears in ancient Ayurvedic texts as a cherished herb used to support resilience and balance. Over time, tulsi travelled beyond its spiritual origins and became beloved around the world — not just for its cultural significance, but for the sense of clarity and calm it brings to daily life.
Tulsi has some beautiful quirks. There are several varieties — Rama, Krishna, and Vana — each with its own subtle flavour and personality, yet all sharing that unmistakable tulsi warmth. The plant is also known for attracting bees and butterflies, filling gardens with life and movement. When you rub its leaves between your fingers, the scent blooms instantly, releasing layers of spice, mint, and sweetness that feel both ancient and fresh.
People often enjoy tulsi for the sense of calm, clarity, and gentle uplift it offers. Its naturally aromatic character can help create a soothing moment in the middle of a busy day, and many find it supportive when they want to unwind without feeling heavy or drowsy. It blends beautifully with ginger, lemon balm, mint, chamomile, and floral herbs, adding depth and a warm, comforting brightness to any tea.
Tulsi is generally considered gentle, but it may not be suitable for individuals who are pregnant, breastfeeding, managing specific health conditions, or taking regular medication. Those with blood sugar-related concerns or thyroid conditions should seek guidance from a healthcare professional before using it regularly. And, as always, enjoying it in moderation is the best way to honour its long-held place as a plant of balance and wellbeing.
We use this herb in our Clari-tea, which is our blend for focus, uplift and mental clarity.
